Jen gains point but deer win game
I may have won the battle of the bird food with the deer, but the deer have absolutley won this season. I checked out my tulips this afternoon. Every single tulip has been munched down to a stubby little mass. I can only hope there is enough left for the tulips to make food to keep the bulbs alive for next year. I now have a year (hopefully) to devise a way to win the battle next year.

Who knew tulips were so yummy? As for next year, Burke has a rifle that ought to do the trick. Just Kidding!
Running in the early morning a few weeks back, I was coming up the street near our church. I pointed my flashlight at something in the yard of a house about 4 homes away, and thought "that's a freaking huge dog!". The dog, actually a deer, seemed only slight alarmed as I ran closer. Turns out that he and 5 of his close friends were just going to town on the poor home owners shrubbery. After I got close enough they all bolted out in front of me into the middle of the street where they ran away from me, but with not a lot of urgency. They continued running, then stopping to look back as how close I was, for about a 1/2 mile until they got uncomfortable with my consistent approach and bolted through the golf course and off into another yard full of tender evergreen shrubs.
They can certainly be destructive pests.
