More Funny

Today a little boy, who usually works very well, was acting out. Finally I said, "Do I have to stand next to you all day?" He replied that he wanted me to stand there because I smelled good and that was why he was being bad.

Jilly, I was wearing the cotton candy perfume!!

The American dream

When did Washington decide it was their responsibility to make sure everyone achieves the American dream, rather than just creating a nation where it is possible to work hard and achieve? I am tired of those running for office telling me everyone will be in a beautiful house, drive the best cars and get a college education. What about those who actually earned all that?

Who to vote for?

Something to Post

I thought I never had anything worth while to post. We do the same things week in and week out. But, today I realized that I have several students that say the funniest things. Maybe I can make others smile by sharing. (names will be withheld or changed to protect the innocent)

1) One day I went to school with my hair straight instead of curly. A little girl said, "Oh, you cut your hair, it's longer."

2) One kid got frustrated and said, "I don't want to be here, I wish I could die." After seeing the horrified look on my face said, "No, dying would hurt, why don't you die."

3) An evaluation was being done and a boy was asked, "What are your strenghts?" After a moments thought he said, "in my muscles."

The Family that runs together.....

The kids were a bit jealous of the time Matthew and I spent together training and running the 1/2 marathons. So, we all ran the Layton Classic 5k race. The kids even pitched in 1/2 of the entry fee. Everyone did great. Elliot and Matthew came in first. Emilia and I were second and Katherine was just after us. I believe that Emilia and I only beat Katherine because if Emilia slowed down, I would take her hand and pull her along. Nobody is yet complaining of sore muscles and everyone seems excited to do another race in the future.

New Lessons

I took a new position a the school this year. I am the TA for the resource teacher. I have only worked with the kids for two days but I have already been made acutely aware of how blessed I am. These kids I work with have been given a raw deal in life. They struggle to do the simplest of reading and math problems. They do, however, show up everyday willing to work harder than any kid I know, just to get the basics.

My hope for the time I have in this position is to learn gratitude and patience. I hope I can transfer what I learn to my own children.
